Philosophy of Redemptive Discipline: An Application to School Discipline

Redemptive discipline can be the mindset and method by which values and standards could be constantly upholded and enforced. It is a special and inclusive framework given to the regular judiciary process promulgated in a school’s Code of Conduct. It endeavours to awaken the moral and spiritual sensitivities of the learner relative to the wrongs committed. This article will seek to formulate the essence of the redemptive discipline approach and to highlight the characteristics of such an approach. A model for this approach in schools is presented with the aim to demonstrate the outcome that the disciplinary process should be an educational and redemptive process.
