Abstract
Violence against South African children is a scourge ravaging society for much to long. Through a literature study the South African and international focus was assessed on the topic. Close attention was paid to the problem of children being exposed to violent crime getting relevant pastoral counselling. Tendencies and hiatuses in this regard was shown against the backdrop of the South African context. Especially geared towards the focal point regarding pastoral support for children being exposed to violent crime. In this study both quantitative and qualitative methods were used. The method was partially empirically based to determine whether students in the educational sector felt empowered to give effective pastoral support in the educational environment to children exposed to violent crimes. The quantitative part of the study focused on the scope of the problem through a relevant literature review. The proposed solution to the stated problem is being done by way of a Christian pastoral counselling model for educators. Requirements that such a model should adhere to in order to fit the educational environment was also raised. Biblical guidelines for such a pastoral model for educators was established. With regards to the pastoral approach the Osmer model were used with a few adjustments.
