Thesis (LL.M. (Import and Export Law))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2008.
This dissertation investigates the cross-border regulation for environmental protection in Southern Africa. This is done by evaluation of international, regional and sub-regional bodies followed by a comparison between existing South African and Mozambican environmental legislation. Due to the ever increasing demand for energy efficient and environmentally friendly energy carriers, such as natural gas, it is of great importance that cross-border gas pipelines are sufficiently regulated. The study focuses on the SASOL Natural Gas Pipeline Project between South Africa and Mozambique. An evaluation of the existing legal frameworks is made, followed by recommendations for development of the existing SADC Protocol on Energy.
